MOST Ministries

Picture
One of the 2020 District Convention's ingathering projects was eyeglasses for MOST Ministries. This little girl's smile shows her joy and thanks!

"In this picture, our (MOST) team was working in Ethiopia at a school for the deaf. This precious little girl was so excited to receive a pair of glasses. Your eyeglass donations change lives each time a pair of glasses is given out. We are grateful for your support of MOST Ministries and ask for your continued prayers. You are precious in His sight and in ours."

Concordia Theological Seminary Food and Clothing Co-op

Picture
Dear Friends in Christ,
My name is Brennan DeForest and I am a second year student at CTSFW. I grew up in West Jordan, Utah which is a suburb of Salt Lake City. I attended college at Concordia University in Seward, NE and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. I have known since high school, though, that I wanted to be a pastor, so I also was in the pre-seminary program at Concordia Nebraska. Now I am just beginning my second year of seminary after an awesome first year.
This letter comes to you thanking you for your recent gift to the CTSFW food and clothing co-ops. Even though I live on campus and have a meal plan, I still benefit so much from the co-ops. I have found in the clothing co-op several clerical shirts. Meanwhile from the food co-op I am able to keep a fresh stock of snacks for the week. Additionally, on Saturdays and Sundays there is no dining service for breakfast. I am thankful for the food co-op because I get breakfast foods which fill me up until lunchtime rolls around
and keep my stomach from grumbling during church on Sunday. The food co-op also provides laundry detergent for my dorm, which saves me money since I don’t have to buy it. Finally the food co-op provides a number of toiletries so that I save money by not having to pay for Kleenex, toothpaste, shampoo, and soap.
Not only I but my friends who are married and live off campus also benefit from the food co-op. They get their weekly groceries from the food co-op which saves them time and money. There is also always an abundance of food there so I have been to a number of get togethers with my friends where all the food came from the co-op.
Overall, I want to say thank you once again for your generosity! Many lives are impacted because of your gifts and prayers!
In Christ,
Brennan DeForest
Dear friends in Christ,
Grace, Mercy, and peace be to you from God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Amen. Allow me to  introduce myself; My name is Nicholas Whitney. I am 32 years old and have a beautiful family! My wife Cassie and I have been married for 11 years. From this wonderful marriage we have been blessed with two wonderful children; Lyla (6) and Henry (4). I am in my 3rd year of studies at Concordia Theological Seminary here in Fort Wayne, IN. In the three years that my family and I have spent here, we have relied on a lot of generosity. Some of that generosity we know exactly where it comes from. Such is the case with family back home, personal donors through the seminary, our home congregation, and at times, church’s I have preached at here in the area giving not only money, but also food and basic house hold goods. Other times the good Lord has graced us with blessings and gifts from we people and groups  we
don’t know. Much of these “unknown” blessings and gifts come to us from the Co-Op here on campus. Either by food, clothing, games, books, basic house hold goods, gift cards, and or even just putting us in contact with people who can help, the Co-Op is not only helpful, but is rather vital for many students on campus. Living a semi-nomadic lifestyle while in seminary until we are called and placed by God, many families, mine included, rely on donations made to the seminary. The many and varying services I have listed prior, my family and I  have partaken of and have used all of them in some
way or another. Often times, these generous gifts and blessings make it possible for me to concentrate on my studies without having to worry. Other times these gifts and blessings have made it possible economically to simply stay here in Fort Wayne and continue studies. There is no doubt that coming to seminary is hard. Hard on students
and families alike. During these past months of COVID-19 virus, civil unrest in major cities and a economy that has been hard hit because of these events, the Co-Op and those unnamed individuals and groups who take the time to support and stock it, make It possible for me and many other students to survive the additional stresses. It has
become almost common place for me to simply reference Matt. 6:25-26;  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into
barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Blessings,
Seminarian Nicholas Whitney

To the U-I District Board and all the ladies!
Thank you so much for the gift from your wonderful mites! This allows me to start paying the
staff member who has been volunteering since early June, but has college bills to pay and helps
me plan to bring on more staff. I pray I get to greet many of you at family camps this summer!

KUNA DAYS AND FRIENDSHIP LUTHERAN MISSION VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

KUNA DAYS: Friday, August 2, 2019 – 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. & Saturday, August 3, 2019 – 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

FRIENDSHIP LUTHERAN MISSION VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Monday–Friday, August 5 through 9 – 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

During Kuna Days our new mission in Kuna will have a booth at the city park to advertise our Vacation Bible School which will begin the following week. There will be NO COST for the VBS.  The VBS will take place at the Old School Gym. We will also be inviting people to the first worship service of Friendship Lutheran Mission on October 6, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Old School Gym located at 571 W. 4th Street in Kuna.

For the Kuna Days event I am looking for enthusiastic helpers to be hosts or hostesses at our booth which will be a 10’ x 10’ tent. We will have lots of giveaways including but not limited to VBS brochures, registration forms, along with information about the new mission church and our Life Groups already meeting in Kuna. There will also be other great giveaways such as bottled ice water, Bibles, Gospel Bead Bracelets (which we will make WITH interested children), cross necklaces, bubbles and suckers for the children, a Life Book which explains how to become a Christian, and Gospel tracts which explain clearly the message of God’s love for us.

Secondly, I am looking for willing, part-time or full-time, volunteers to help with the VBS that will be held each day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Charlie Young will be the VBS Director; he has a number of years of experience with our VBS and Summer Camps at Friendship Celebration. He will have several meetings to connect with interested volunteers between June 16 and 29. I know many of you have worked with him before. Charlie and I are looking for help in the following areas: teachers, teacher assistants, craft leaders and helpers, people to check children in and out, first aid people, music leaders and helpers, leaders and helpers of outdoor games and activities, people who will help with snacks and their distribution, and at the end of each day a cleanup crew.

For both Kuna Days and the VBS we are looking to you for the areas you would like to serve and the times and days you would be available. You may contact me or Charlie to volunteer or with any questions you might have.

Charlie Young: cdcy16@gmail.com

Thanks so much for your prayerful consideration,
Pastor Tom

LWML District Days

Clover Trinity Lutheran School
Lutheran families migrated from Nebraska to Southern Idaho at the luring of a seed company to raise clover seed – thus the name of the community was called Clover. The wives said they would not move to Idaho unless the men agreed to build a school first before they even considered building a church! They worshiped in the school building until the church was built three years later.  Wanting their children to have a Christian education, a school was built in 1915 and has held classes each year for 104 years! The LWML Utah-Idaho District is supporting this school with a $5,000 grant that will provide scholarship funds for students and families desiring a Christ-centered education but unable to pay cost of tuition. The school’s mission is to nurture, equip, and disciple students for the future by providing excellence in education with a dynamic Christ-centered environment.

Donations to help these children receive a Christian education may be sent to Barbara James, LWML District Financial Secretary, 2812 E. Ohio Ave., Nampa, ID 83686. Visit our website at utahidaholwml.org.

Worship Anew
The LWML Utah-Idaho District is reaching the homebound, hospitalized, and unchurched with God’s Word by supporting Worship Anew with a grant of $5,000. The content of Worship Anew, a 30-minute worship service, comes from the Missouri Synod’s Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is aired on an ABC channel each Sunday in the local area.

Prayers and financial support are needed to ensure this ministry continues to meet the spiritual needs in Southern Idaho. Donations may be sent to Barbara James, LWML District Financial Secretary, 2812 E. Ohio Ave., Nampa, ID 83686. Visit our website at utahidaholwml.org.
